On our own

Second week into parenting all on our own proved to be a lifestyle change. We are still in the process of solidly establishing a routine but we are getting there. Last week was a challenge for both Liam and Jon as they were "forced" into liking each other! Now the bub is liking his dad's company.

I started Liam on solids after he pulled my plate to his mouth and licked the edge of it. The next night he had his first taste of porridge-like food of rice cereal and pureed apples. He loves his solids. That night he only woke up once for a bit of milk. I think he was thirsty because I didn't give him milk or water after his solids. Duh. I was the one waking up constantly that night instead of him! It was funny. :)

I'm not sure what it's like in other countries but here in NZ they strongly advise against solids until 6 months. The youngest is 4 months as stated in all the baby food sold in the market. A coworker from South Africa had her babies start at 3 months full on, with a bit of tasting before that.

My baby is really growing fast and is very very cute!

talkin' talk

One night this week, Liam discovered his voice! I took this one today as he sat on his Bumbo.

Child care

We're about to sign a contract this coming week for Liam's child care starting mid-June. Although we started discussions with Porse, I'm really keen to proceed with Barnardos. All their caregivers are trained by the organization and are first aid certified. Jon and I went to their office yesterday to discuss KidStart - the program we want for Liam.

We originally planned to begin by June 23rd but we might have the week prior as our transition period. We'd like Liam to be comfortable with his caregiver during our work hours. She lives about a couple of burbs away, but nothing is ever far here in Welly town. Liam will be with us for the contract signing so that he could meet her for the first time.

I have anxiety about having strangers care for my child, but that's the way it is. At least I'm confident that Barnardos will meet, if not exceed, our expectations. Child care isn't cheap but I've to say that they seem to offer the best programs (in my opinion) at decent rates!
