March updates

I'm blogging at 2am! The joys of motherhood.

We are enjoying having Liam sleep with us. For 4 straight nights last week, we put him in his cot so that he could experience independent sleeping. The cot was moved right next to my side of the bed so that I could easily see him and attend to him. He's been pretty good about sleeping in the night. He grunts a lot and that's how he wakes us up. Between 11PM and 6AM, he would wake up for 3 or 4 times for feeds and/or changing. It was after he woke up past 5AM that Jon had put him in the bed with us. Later on we decided against putting him in his cot entirely until he's probably 3 or 4 months.

Like I said he grunts a lot. When he grunts in his sleep, sometimes putting him on his tummy to sleep works. He loves to sleep on his tum! My theory is because he was in posterior position in my belly for the longest time. He lived through months in that position. The boy also farts like an adult, and by that I mean in decibels not in smell! One time as he was cuddled by Jon, I heard a rip and asked Jon if it was his. Such a fart face! :) But that's of course better than having a gassy infant to deal with. Who knows what that would mean. There are times that when he passes wind it isn't smell-free either.

On March 27th he had his 6th week check up with our GP. He also had his jabs (vaccinations) done. He was traumatized! 3 giant needles jabbed into his thighs and the little boy screamed and cried in pain! Poor thing! :(

Lately he has been spending longer hours awake during the day but is getting less and less happy just staring at the ceiling. He wants to see faces, watch movements, listen to people talk, and converse in his own little way with people around him. He has been smiling and giggling since his 4th week. Today he spent 80% of the day time awake!

For other updates, Jon and I are finally doing it after putting it off for 4 months. April 7th is the marriage date followed by a delayed dinner reception on April 12th at Tinakori Bistro.

vital stats

As per my last post, the little Liam is growing fast! The midwife weighs him in weekly but not measure his height/length. So today I just decided to get the measuring tape and was surprised to see that he grew 7 centimeters since birth! The little boy is now 60 cm. (23.6 inches)!!! Such a big boy!

So he sleeps most of the day and decides that he would like to be up for a good chunk at night. He also seems to fart a lot! Sometimes we hear a fart and ask the adults around who did it. His fart sounds like that of an adult's! It's actually funny although it can smell rotten! :-P

We also went to our antenatal class mates catch up on his 2nd week and hosted the following week's catch up. Below is a photo of the kids: Daniel, William, Cameron, Ethan, Alice, Liam, Ari & Flynn (twins). They were arranged from oldest to youngest. Cute!

27 days later

Liam is almost 4 weeks old now and he's gaining weight quite fast. He has gained a pound since birth and now weighs 10.4 lbs. I looked at his 1-day old pic and really saw the difference.

I'm trying to be good at constantly breast feeding him. I have not been expressing milk in the past week because he is on the boob all day. He still has formula in the middle of the night when he's being looked at by his grandma.

We have taken Liam out to in CBD for a few times now. We took him to the Newtown Festival in his stroller but his day trips after that we used his front pack. He loves going out because he just sleeps through it. He seems to relax when he's out and about. He also loves the front pack because he loves to sleep on his tummy on another's tummy.

The midwife has complimented him for being such a settled boy. He is really settled to the point that when he cries we let him be just so he could cry some. He grunts when he's hungry or wet, and he's hardly ever cold with all his blanket and clothes on. You would not think that there's a baby in our house.

More later!
